Welcome
Thank you for stopping by my site.
This quilt is my latest creation. It consists of a painted canvas that is the basis for the quilt. This painting is then set into the quilt designed after the painting. I love playing with the free form grid superimposed under the curved lines. I am currently painting more canvases hoping that a quilt will appear to mimic the image of the painting. Enjoy the rest of the site. You will find information on classes and lectures, books and supplies, and of course my quilts and stitched paintings. Also, the Alegre Retreat website is up and can be visited at www.alegreretreat.com

Hi Everyone it is the first of July. Hard to imagine that this year is half over! I am getting ready to go up to Sisters Oregon for the Quilters Affair. I have ten family members going to meet me there and take my color class. What fun that will be. My sister Terry and my cousin Holly and I are having a display of our log cabin quilts that we get together to make every year. I am excited about this and they are thrilled this is their first quilt show to display in so that should be very exciting. I just got back from my family reunion in the Redwoods in Northern California. It was a small group of us and very relaxing we painted the redwoods and here are some of the works created. Pretty good from a group of non painters!

We had a lot of fun. I am working on finishing up my new book with C&T publishing on transforming the still life. I have one more sample quilt to put together and three to quilt and then I am done. Then I have to organize all of the fantastic pieces that all my students sent for possible inclusion in the book. Then! I get to start on a new art quilt based on my new abstract paintings that I have been doing. It is a very busy summer with teaching and trying to get all of my deadlines completed. Next month my son Brad and his girl Natalia are getting married and the reception is at my house. So that will be lots of fun too. Wait to see those pictures in the September newsletter. Keep checking back to see what I am up to.
Please if you are on facebook become a fan of Katiepm and Alegre Retreat. lots of fun things to see there.
Alegre Retreat was a huge success this year and we are already planning the 2011 Retreat which will be in March so that we can take advantage of the cheaper rate for the off season. Check out all of the goings on at www.alegreretreat.com. I hope that you can join us for another fun year
Until August have a great sewing time.

June

Hello!

Summer is here and it is beautiful in New Mexico. I love my walks in the early mornings with the dogs. I have been very busy although it may not appear like it because I haven't posted any new quilts on this web site or my face book page at Katiepm. That is because I am on a deadline to get my new book turned in on the first draft stage. Lots of work and lots of quilts to make to go with each of 11 exercises. But I can't show any of these quilts to you yet under C&T Publishing's rules. When the time gets closer to publication (Fall of 2011) we will be "leaking" some of the quilt images. So keep in touch by checking back to this web site or join me on facebook. I have been painting with my painting friends on Wednesday, I am creating a lot of painted abstracts that I will quilt and frame. I have a show at Starbucks on the plaza in Santa Fe for the month of August and they want abstract this time, no landscapes. This should be really fun. Saturday we leave for Gateway Colorado for the second annual Alegre Retreat. Check out all of the information for Alegre Retreat at www.alegreretreat.com or join us on facebook at Alegre Retreat. I will be posting pictures each day of the activities on the facebook page so check back and see all of the fun that we are having. We do have the line up for next years retreat which will be in March. It will go live on www.alegreretreat.com site on the 6th of June, registration starts June 15 at 9 am Mountain time. The teachers will be myself of course, Nancy Crow, Rosalie Dace, Judi Warren Blaydon and Emily Richardson. I am so proud of this line up and wish that I wasn't teaching so I could take all of them. Impossible but that is ok with fantasies. I am also planning a wedding with my son and his fiance that will be August 14th so that is also keeping me busy but very fun. They are getting married under a very old cottonwood not far from the house with the reception at my house. So lots of planning and lots of fun. My Finale Package date for the book is August 2nd. The show at Starbucks goes up on August 1st, then I am free to create a new piece of work to enter into Quilt National. Can't wait to get back into my studio to do some serious painting and quilting.

Have a happy and productive and fun summer

(April)

It is the first of April!

Spring is hopefully coming soon. I am knee deep in projects. I have joined a group of painters who paint every Wednesday morning and it is very exciting and they are pushing me to new depths or is it heights with my paintings. I am very excited about it.

I am working on my ninth book with C&T publishing. It is based on my new class Transforming the Still Life, where we create abstractions based on a still life. That too is very exciting and a lot of work. I am making a new quilt from each of the exercises so I am enjoying my studio time.
Alegre Retreat is only two months away. I am working on that web site doing interviews and updating all of the information so that keeps me busy as well. If you haven't yet please check Alegre out on face book at Alegre Retreat and check our  web site www.alegreretreat.com My son Brad Masopust is the web guy for that as well as this site and I think they look marvelous! He will be graduating with a BA in June with highest honors and we are so proud.
I have a face book fan page for katiepm where I show my projects and keep you updated more often on what I am up to so become a fan if you would like at katiepm.
My daughter Jes who shares my studio and makes beautiful hand painted bags just got gallery representation at Straw House Gallery in Amado, Arizona. Check her work out on her web site JRMbags.com

So things are going along pretty great. I am very busy my family is doing well and I am enjoying my walks in the mornings with my daughter and all of the dogs. And I am happily painting again and that is very fun. Have a great Spring and may all of your plants survived the long winter.

So ...the Black and White quilt is finished, I call it Music for the Spheres. I love the sound of that it was in my musical terms book and seem to fit perfect.

this is the wikapedia information about the title. I love it.

Musica universalis (lit. universal music, or music of the spheres) is an ancient philosophical concept that regards proportions in the movements of celestial bodies—the SunMoon, and planets—as a form of musica (the Medieval Latin name for music). This 'music' is not literally audible, but a harmonic and/or mathematical and/or religious concept.
Now that the quilt is done I am on to my next project which is writing my ninth book!! Wow I have been doing this for a long time. It is called Transforming the Still life. that is the working title. could change at any time but it is based on a class I have been teaching for several years where we work with an all white still life and do lots of fun exercises to abstract what we are seeing. So I will be trying to get a new quilt completed for each of the exercises. I have until the first of July so that should keep me busy that would be 12 quilts in 5 months. Watch my progress on Facebook. the katiepm page.

Alegre Retreat is coming along great!
